What comprises a voice solution?
Voice Directed Picking is an order selection method used widely in warehouse or distribution centre environments. Voice directed picking used verbal commands, which are given to and received from a human Warehouse Picker.
In a voice directed warehouse system operators use a compact, wearable computer with a headset incorporating a microphone to receive instructions by voice. This computer is connected wirelessly to the host business system (ERP or WMS) over a wireless network, and the operator is able to confirm his or her actions verbally back to the system in real time.
In practical terms voice directed picking is very similar to traditional RF Scanner Picking, but the precise methods in which prompts are provided and responses received are different. The eSmart voice software handles the differences seamlessly outside of the host business system.
A user profile is created for each of the warehouse Operatives. Spoken commands are then issued to Operatives equipped with a mobile voice terminal and headset.
The commands instruct the Operative through each stage of the job. When complete, the Operative confirms the transaction by reading back the required data, such as the quantity or check digit. This information is communicated back to the host system giving you instant updates and insight into picking progress and stock availability.
The system also makes real time replenishment requests and last minute changes to orders possible, even once order picking has commenced.
